Dawn and her husband John are the parents of three children, Jenn, Jackie, and Johnny. They have two son-in-laws, James who married daughter Jenn in 2004 and Cody who married daughter Jackie in 2008. Dawn grew up in Rockford, living there until she began a "career" as an Army wife, living through 12 moves in 15 years, including three moves within Europe. In 1994, Dawn and family returned to hometown Rockford.

Dawn served on staff at First Free Church for 13 years. Dawn is an active speaker for women's groups, a Precept Bible study teacher, has been involved as a leader in high school ministry, and teaches in a variety of settings. Dawn is passionate about sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and helping to establish God's people in the precepts of His Word. In her spare time, Dawn enjoys reading, walking, cooking, and exploring history with her family. At present, she and her husband John are living in Washington, DC.
